Grand Isle County

Grand Isle is the northwesternmost county in Vermont and a premier destination for cycling. Local Motion and our partners continue to work hard to connect the islands of Grand Isle County with the Greater Burlington area. During the summer months, the Island Line Bike Ferry makes it possible to bike from Burlington all the way to the Canadian border. On special occasions, we even operate the ferry into the night so that cyclists can enjoy concerts at picturesque island vineyards and still get hoGoodsellsRidge.JPGme by bike.

Local Motion supports the efforts of local communities to make Grand Isle County and its towns a safer place for walking and biking. We recently evaluated sections of the former Island Line rail bed and assessed likely segments for acquisition in order to recreate the trail in sections that would allow users to take in the stunning scenery while circumventing Route 2. We’ve also worked with local landowners to build bike rest areas in several locations along the Island Line, providing locals and visitors alike to give their muscles a break and grab a quick snack.

To become more involved in making Grand Isle County a safer place to walk and bike, consider getting involved locally, or host a bicycling education event in your school or workplace.
